A recent trend that has begun to gain more and more traction is Bollywood stars working in South Indian films. Until now, South Indians films were targeted only to the respective regions but now, filmmakers are targeting a bigger market.
The inclusion of Bollywood stars, in particular, is helping them do that as they instantly get a pan India appeal. Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn’s inclusion in RRR, Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon starring in KGF chapter 2, Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan sharing the screen with Prabhas in Nag Ashwin’s project are examples of the same. While this trend is certainly not new, it surely is picking up pace. A leading news portal got in touch with a trade analyst who gave a detailed insight about the same. He said, “Now production houses in the South from Kannada, Telugu and Tamil film industries are making big-budget action films that have all-Indian sentiments roaring high. You throw in some Bollywood stars and you get mass circuits locked. By mass circuits, I mean Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, a whole lot of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Also, the dubbing value becomes higher and satellite prices soar. Earlier, only Salman Khan used to make such massy films.”
