Born to a middle class family, she dreamt of becoming a millionaire. Keeping that dream on the back burner, Parineeti however decided to pursue academics.  An aspiring investment banker, Parineeti didn't particularly think highly of showbiz. So off she went to London to study investment banking.  Soon recession hit Britain and Parineeti found herself back in the country. It took her a couple of years to realise her dream and even then, her first whiff of the movies was as a PR professional for Yash Raj Film.

She was happy working as a public relations consultant when her mentor Aditya Chopra and cousin Priyanka Chopra planted the idea of becoming an actor in her mind. While working closely on the promotions of Band Baaja Baaraat, Parineeti thought of giving movies a shot. And within a year, she landed her first role in Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl, where she played the role of feisty  Dimple who gets conned by a lover. Soon she was heralded as the next big thing and her career took off. She celebrated her success with her family and close ones. Sweet memories are made of these cheerful moments.  Listen to her talk about them.

Success agreed with her, but it comes with its pitfalls. She found herself  disconnected from everyone as work consumed her.  She admits that she lost lost sight of things. She signed on any script that came her way, and as the work pressure increased,  lost touch with people closest to her. So much that her brother complained that she'd changed beyond recognition. She recalls, "My brother had come to stay with me and he looked at me and said that I’ve changed completely as a person. I did not realise what he meant but it was a huge slap on my face.”

Then an intense bout of depression engulfed her. Just when it seemed all was lost, she took charge of herself. Parineeti realised she'd goofed up. The first step was apologising to all the people she'd hurt Mending those relationships was not easy, but Parineeti knew she'd have to walk on the proverbial burning coal if she had to win back her loved ones.  Remembering that time, the actress gets emotional. Says she,  “A lot of people who'd  invite me to their get togethers,  just stopped because they said I never attended anything. When you talk of vulnerability, this was just phase one. I went through a phase of depression and I had to come out and mend ways with people." Yes she was truly down and out. And that's when your turn to your family. Because families never abandon you. That's what Parineeti did.
