Flashback: Fashion report of the Filmfare Awards red carpet

Today, celebrities may dress elaborately for the Filmfare Awards, dropping names of designers and strutting their stuff at the red carpet. It wasn’t always the case. Filmfare tracks the changing fashion trends of the last 14 years.

1

In 2003, most women were still taking the safe route and wearing traditional Indian formal attire. However, some like Manisha Koirala, Preity Zinta and Gauri Khan opted for strappy dresses and off-shoulder tops international style.

2

Coloured hair was the style statement in 2004. Preity Zinta and Kareena Kapoor had shades of blonde and bronze in their lovely locks. Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan too were seen sporting gold highlights in their manes.

In 2005, salwar kameezes were out and shimmering sarees were in. Especially for the glitzy night, the sarees were done up with embellishments and sequins.

2

The black tie dress code was  finally taken seriously in 2006. On the red carpet, Preity Zinta shone in a Prada jacket and Giorgio Armani skirt, Shilpa Shetty dazzled in a Tarun Tahiliani gown and Aishwarya Rai looked stunning in a black Shahab Durazi gown.

2

In 2007, most actresses dressed in flowing gowns that showed off their cleavage. The actors also mixed up their classic three-piece suits with interesting ties.

2

While gowns were pretty much the choice of the majority in 2008, there was a special emphasis on the bust detail. The men decided to have some fun, teaming jackets with jeans.

2

In 2009, it was a fair mix of Indian and Western wear for the beautiful ladies. Sonam Kapoor dazzled in a white Chanel gown, Priyanka Chopra turned heads in an Alberta Ferretti gown and Katrina Kaif looked dainty as ever in a Gauri and Nainika outfit. On the other hand, Aishwarya Rai opted for a Sabyasachi Mukherjee saree and Kareena Kapoor shimmered in a Manish Malhotra ensemble.

Rekha and Sridevi

Rekha looks regal and elegant in her saree attire. Sridevi made a stunning appearance in a light chiffon sari by Manish Malhotra

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

The former beauty queen looked  ethereal in an off-white diamond studded elegant saree by Manish Malhotra.

Sonakshi Sinha

Sonakshi kept it young and bright in this green Gauri and Nainika gown.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif dolls up in this peach and silver embellished Manish Malhotra creation.

Kareena Kapoor Khan

Dazzle razzle

On anyone else, it would be dubbed pale. But Kareena Kapoor stands out in this Manish Malhotra nude Swarovski-studded saree. Intricate embroidery on her sleeves and candy pink nails add to her elegance.

bips

Shiny disco

An all gold ensemble is a dicey proposition but Bipasha Basu looks fabulous in this one-shouldered Shantanu and Nikhil gown. Check out her attention to detail with gold accessories and that touch of orange on her lips.

Vidya

Green with envy?

It was a pleasant surprise to see Vidya Balan ditch her usual Sabyasachi creations for a rich Kanjeevaram. Ethnic jhumkas and minimal make-up was her obvious choice as would have been ours. Lovely!

Mads

Mad mad magic

She always shines through it all. Madhuri Dixit Nene looks exceptional in her Anju Modi saree. Her choice of blending white and grey with a dash of purple is fascinating. Her intricate jewellery by Golecha complements her attire.

Deepika

hot hot hot!

She has this knack for redefining sexy. Deepika Padukone can be quite the tease on the red carpet. One look at this Prabal Gurung outfit and you know what we mean. On the other hand, we have no qualms about the soaring temperature, especially in this chilly weather.

Anushka

Classic touch

For someone as slim as Anushka Sharma, we didn’t expect anything vintage. But boy, she nails the look and how! Colour-blocking the mustard Victoria Beckham gown with fiery orange lips and nails was quite the move. Even her extravagant hairdo complemented her look marvelously.

Sridevi

A winning tale
She’s a winner in every sense. Sridevi really walks this Alberta Ferretti gown fabulously. And those sparkling diamonds… To be honest, we just couldn’t keep our eyes off her. Kudos to her for carrying off this bold statement so gracefully.

Alia

Pretty young thing
Aww! This cutie chose to go for a lehenga at her first Filmfare Awards ceremony. Don’t you think Alia Bhatt looks like a million bucks in this Manish Malhotra creation? We love it.

Parineeti

Phatakdi alert
What we really like about Parineeti Chopra’s outfit is its minimalism. Despite her bright red lipstick and side-swept hair, this bubbly star lets the outfit do all the talking. Don’t forget to notice her sexy slit. Superb!

SRK

King of hearts
It’s been a while since we saw him don a crisp white blazer. And how we love Shah Rukh Khan in this Diana Sethna creation! But mostly it’s his million dollar dimpled-smile and notorious eyes that work like a charm.

Ranbir

Aristocratic, eh!
This hunk can walk the red carpet in absolutely anything and we’ll still love him endlessly. But that doesn’t take away how sexy Ranbir Kapoor looks in this Vivienne Westwood suit. The icing on the cake was his fastening detail on the blazer.

Ranveer

Different strokes
His moustache and long locks make him look rugged. On the other hand, his tailored tuxedo by Narendra Kumar is absolutely classy. Only someone as spunky and nutty as Ranveer Singh can pull off this combination so confidently.

Arjun

Elegance at its best

This cutie looks super fascinating in his jet black Burberry attire. A better fit would’ve looked striking on Arjun Kapoor. But he’s worked this look with his crisp white bandhgala shirt and spiked hair.

Sid

Hottie!
How lovely does that li’l red corsage look on his jet black tuxedo! Even his grey bow tie exudes that elegant vibe. Siddharth Malhotra gets with it in this Shiraz Siddiqui attire. Smashin’ hot, na?

Varun

Breath of fresh air

Now he really knows how to walk the red carpet in a velvet Archana Walavalkar blazer ensemble. With his printed pocket square and Chinese collared white shirt, Varun Dhawan nailed the look. We’re starry eyed!

R

International love
The host of the night Priyanka Chopra made an entry on the red carpet in an Alexander McQueen. It's such a Priyanka pick! It was her side-swept hairdo and Atelier Mon earrings that exuded vintage charm.

S

Star power
In a navy blue suit and waistcoat, all eyes were glued to Salman Khan. A well-tailored white shirt seemed to be the safest and sexiest bet. But what tantalised us even more was his french beard.
