It's a simple tale of life in a village, bringing to life it's bittersweet quality. It's also a pointer towards the sad state of affairs that's bureaucracy has reduced our country to. And also tells us how a few good men -- and women -- is all it takes to make a difference.
The directing team comes back to direct this taut thriller about a cop and his nemesis. They may be facing each other across the divide of law but in reality aren’t so much different from each other. Their mutual hatred and mutual fascination for each other is what made it different from other police procedurals.
The actor played the antagonist but his wasn't a villainous but a parallel role. He was the alter ego to Madhavan and feeded off him in his performance, winning accolades all around. It was a test of equals and the audience verily was at a loss to know whose side to take.
She was dressed in two sarees throughout and proved with her powerhouse performance that she doesn't need to be glamourous to deliver at the box office. The film was uncharted territory for her but she sailed through unabashed. We wish more such roles should come her way soon.
This is Prasanna's 25th film and he's never looked so good. Being bad apparently suits him. He's a genius hacker who is a cad at heart and loves blackmailing people and getting his way. His expressions as he sets about to do speaks volumes.
The actress plays Vijay’s wife in the film who gets killed because of medical negligence. She's shown to be his pillar of strength and he kind of loses it after her death. It was a short role carrying lots of clichés but Nithya sort of rose above them and managed to shine.
Rahman mixes traditional sounds with some modern rhythm to make a pure massy album for this Vijay starrer. It's a mixture of Rahman's and Vijay's sensibilities and has something for everyone.
Alliteration is often used to convey subtle meanings and here the poetic use of the device adds another layer to the fine melody.
Yaanji is a melodious track and Anirudh has done a good job rendering this popular number. His execution is flawless like always.
