The beauty of the film is that it’s full of characters -- it doesn’t have a hero or a villain. Everyone is just playing a part in the story which revolves around a thief hiding a booty as the police tries to extricate information from him about the same. The story can be said to be the hero.
Our stories always have a hero or a villain. But what if everyone is a hero or everyone is a villain. This is the question put to us audience by director Dileesh Pothen in this heartwarming film about common people showing different sides to their personalities during a police enquiry.
This dark comedy has Fazil playing a thief but there is more to his role than this black and white description. Because there is more to life than complete good or complete evil. We all live in shades of grey and that’s what Fazil’s performance is all about. You end up rooting for his character despite his faults.
Parvathy is the soul of the films and holds the film together through her histrionics. The film is based on actual events and thanks to her efforts we kind of feel we are in the middle of actual ground zero, fearing for our lives and looking constantly for a way out of the situation.
Alencier, who resorts to torture to nail the thief, is shown to be driven by desperation to save his job, than anything else when he resorts to sucn unfair means. It’s a very real-life portrayal of an overworked policeman. Alencier is excellent and makes you glimpse the man beneath the uniform through his histrionics.
Shanti Krishna returns to films after a long time and doesn’t find the camera to be a stranger at all but a lover with all his love intact. She played a character who is strong as a rock and doesn’t feel intimidated when tragedy strikes in the form of cancer.
It’s a wonderfully creative album from Rex Vijayan who is having quite an year. The album is a beautiful melange of different sounds and moods and is quite different from the usual formulaic music we hear in our films.
It has a ghazal like flavour at its core and talks about the sensuous nature of love. The lyrics are just lovely.
Shabaz Aman is in complete control of this ghazal like song and renders it to perfection, making for a haunting melody.
