Sometimes, the love of your child makes you do weird things, even change your identity. That was the truth portrayed by Irrfan in his true-to-life performance in Hindi Medium. He was at his mercurial best, changing from one persona to another in the blink of an eye and made it all seem super easy.
It’s hard to get lost in the urban jungle but Rajkummar Rao got trapped in one such scenario where he’s locked inside a flat on the top floor with no means of escape left to him. His mood shifts in such a situation were relatable and hence no wonder the critics liked his gritty performance.
Tumhari Sulu wasn’t just the film hit starved audiences were waiting for in 2017, it was also the film Vidya needed badly to reclaim her position at the top of the marquee. Amitabh Bhattacharya is the true-blue wordsmith of Hindi cinema right now. His creative flair is at its peak and it showed the most in the songs of Jagga Jasoos. Galti se mistake was the biggest hit from this excellent album, and the quirky lyrics were just too good.
Arijit Singh is the undisputed king of playback singing and of his most soulful hits of the year was Roke na ruke naina from Badrinath Ki Dulhania. This solo number had the trademark Arijit goodness along with a variety of singing tricks and technique.
The film was all about rising above your angst and the song brought out that feeling with a vengeance. It must be déjà vu for Meghna, who is a teenager herself and her own journey resonates so much with the film’s subject matter. It was a complex song, full of complexity and verve but Meghna brought out all the nuances like a veteran.
