Karan Johar is the modern age movie moghul. From Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, his films have defined the changing phases of romance in Indian cinema. He's explored everything from college romance to contemporary marriages and a healthy dose of human spirit, as well as the spunk of homosexuality. He's grown up with the movies as generation X and Y have grown up with his films. And he hasn't just limited himself to directing films but has made a name for himself as a talk show host and a celebrity judge and has also come up with a clothing line as well, among other things.

A director who dabbled with every form of cinema possible. Kabir Khan first burst onto the scene with documentaries. His first big foray into commercial cinema happened with Kabul Express. Ever since he teamed up with Salman Khan, his career's catapulted into the higher echelons of stardom and he has sort of become the most sought-after director of sorts after the stupendous success of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. He's currently filming '83, which is based on India's greatest triumph in cricket.

Hers is a face that defines Indian womanhood. She can play any Indian woman from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and manage to look the part. She doesn't bow to conventions and has done roles as diverse as playing a pregnant woman hell bent on revenge to portraying Silk Smitha, as also Geeta Bali on screen. Over the years, she's fast emerging as a gold standard in acting. She's all set to play NT Rama Rao's first wife Basavatarakam in the upcoming NTR biopic.

A gold medallist in arts from JJ School of Arts, Mumbai, Ravi began his career as a painter and illustrator. He progressed to handling art direction and visualisation at ad agencies, and eventually, directing ad films. He always wanted to make a break in feature films and made a cracking big screen debut with Mom (2017), a thriller about a mother seeking revenge on people who had harmed her daughter. The film incidentally proved to be Sridevi's last as a lead actor.

Urmila started off as a child artiste and made a name for herself with Shekhar Kapoor's highly acclaimed film about man-woman relationships, Masoom (1983). She made her Bollywood debut with the hit Narsimha (1991). Ram Gopal Varma's Rangeela (1995) made her a household name. She was a part of hit projects like Satya (1998), Khoobsurat (1999), the Jungle (2000) Deewangee (2002) and many more. She started appearing as a judge in dance reality shows since 2007 and has been a constant celebrity judge since then. Besides her films and TV projects, she has also lent her name to plenty of humanitarian causes.

Nikkhil Advani had a dream start to his filmmaking career with Kal Ho Naa Ho. Over the years he's compiled quite the eclectic list of films. While he's found success in ensemble casts like that of Salaam-E-Ishq, he's also tasted success with taut thrillers like D-Day. Chandni Chowk To China's experimental comedy also added a new flavour to Nikkhil slick career. He's one filmmaker who understands modern film sensibilities and knows how to tell a tall tale. He didn't restrict himself to being a director and has tried his hand at production with films like Airlift and Satyamev Jayate.

Niranjan started out as a film journalist. After interviewing stars for prestigious publications, he progressed to writing dialogues. After making his mark with films like Jism, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Wake Up Sid, he also segued into writing lyrics with films like Heroine and My Name Is Khan. He later progressed to be a talk show host and is currently involved in making short films.

JUDGING

  • The festival appoints a jury consisting of renowned personalities from the world of film and art to judge the shortlisted films. One film per category will be selected as a winner.

    The jury is allowed to reject any film.

    The jury is subject to change.

    Shortlisted entries will be uploaded on the designated channel and micro-site on a pre-announced date.

    There is a category of Popular Choice Awards, where viewers will be able to select one winner by voting.
