The most prestigious Film Festival in the world deserves an eclectic spread of all things grand. Cannes Film Festival - an arena that embraces the confluence of diverse cultures, and personalities and the art of exceptional filmmaking is also the annual hub of striking fashion statements. This year marked the first physical attendance of numerous stars from across the globe as they headed to the French Riviera to celebrate their shared love for films and storytelling.
A horde of Indian stars too turned up in their chicest avatars as they represented India at the most celebrated Film Festival in the world. This year, India was the chosen “Country of Honour” at the festival as a mark of respect for her 75th Year of Independence. While Cannes constant – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan went viral in no time with her timeless presence, Deepika Padukone had all eyes on her as she attended the event as a respected Jury member. Other than that, Pooja Hegde and Tamannaah Bhatia too turned up all decked in exquisite finery as they left everyone impressed with their statuesque presence as Indian representatives.
As most of them are back in the bay and Cannes 2022 is almost on its last leg of extravaganza for this year, here’s a roundup of some stunning fashion statements made by our favourite Indian stars who made sure their outfits were discussed and admired in equal measures.
Deepika Padukone In a Tropical Printed Co-ords Set
Deepika Padukone is known for being quite experimental with her style sense. She kickstarted the Cannes 2022 celebrations in a sartorial tropical printed co-ords set from esteemed Indian atelier Sabyasachi Designs. Her Indo-western look featured a Mysore silk shirt with a soothing beige base and hand-printed floral designs across the bodice that added a vintage edge to the look. The look was further accentuated with classic monogram buttons from the same designer, and she paired this full-sleeved top with pleated trousers in a classy green hue. The silhouette of the trousers had a baggy fit and the signature Sabyasachi belt that cinched her waistline. Deepika rounded off her look with a statement maharani necklace with multi-hued gemstones and uncut diamonds, her loose tresses pulled behind in a bun and accessorized with a matching silk hairband.

For her next look on the same day, Deepika stunned in a black and golden sequin couture saree by Sabyasachi again. Her retro look was much celebrated as it exuded a glamorous aura and was apt for the occasion of the opening ceremony which Deepika attended as a jury member. The design celebrated the extensive brilliance of Indian Arts and heritage crafts. The entire saree had a spread of hand-embroidered and block-printed stripes that looked resplendent on the gold and black colour combination. She paired it with a black backless blouse that featured a sweetheart neckline and risky straps. Painting the French Riviera red, Deepika Padukone was a vision to behold as she got styled in a dreamy red voluminous gown from Louis Vuitton. The flattering crimson hue of the silk gown featured a plunging V-neckline and extremely thin straps that raised the oomph factor of her look. Adding a layer to the cinched waistline was a well-designed structured skirt that complemented her svelte frame and was further complemented with the drama of a short floor-sweeping train on the hemline. She rounded off her look with a messy ponytail, a statement diamond necklace, and matching heels. The bold red lip shade was a refreshing new touch compared to her signature nude makeup base.

For her other activities at the Cannes 2022 film festival, Deepika’s styling saw a generous mix of elegant monochromes, playful prints, and classy neutrals. Deepika served two looks in monochromes and both were all-black outfits. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is Cannes favourite Diva from Indian terrains and she sure knows how to live up to the expectations. She started with a chic hot pink pantsuit by Maison Valentino on Day 1 of her visit to Cannes 2022. The entire look consisted of a sharp blazer with a double-breasted silhouette, matching trousers, and platform pumps – rounding off her formal look with perfection. For her first Red Carpet appearance this year, she went extravagant with a voluminous black gown by Dolce and Gabbana who are known for their OTT designs. The silhouette had a corset fit around the waistline and 3D Floral accents on the alternate side of the sleeves and the billowing skirt of the gown below. She accessorized both looks with statement rings, studs for the formal look, and drop earrings for the glamorous turnover.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in a structured blush-pink gown
The statement-making outfit for Aishwarya this year at Cannes must be the spectacle design by Indian designer Gaura Gupta. The concept of “The Venus”, inspired this structured look which is reminiscent of birth and hope. Her gown had the typical detailing of elaborate structures that Gaurav Gupta designs are known for. In a soothing blush pink shade, the gown had a mermaid-like silhouette and a towering shell-shaped structure on the back that added up to the Venus-inspired storyline. The gown was further studded with exquisite sequin and beads with the dramatic addition of a floor-sweeping trail. She let her sculpted gown enjoy the limelight; she opted for stud ear-cuffs, winged liner, glossy pink lips, and a flush of colour for her cheeks.
Pooja Hegde’s served dreamy and chic contemporary looks
She opted for a gorgeous mini dress but made a statement nevertheless with the dramatic flair of the layered cape sleeves. Styled in Honayda’s midi dress which featured a strapless design, Pooja Hegde looked regal in her first look from the Cannes 2022 Film Festival. The cape sleeves had a floor-sweeping fall as for the prints on the dress – it highlighted some Afghan-influenced designs which is a trademark of the designer. She kept the look extremely classy with statement hoops and pumps for footwear. For her second look, Pooja went all-out with a dreamy feathery ensemble. The gorgeous pastel pink gown was designed by Maison Geyanna Youness and had exquisite sequin work all across the bodice in addition to the feather-detailing. She went for a lovely pair of tassel earrings and a sleek ponytail to keep the look chic.
Tamannaah Bhatia looked regal in pantsuits and glamorous gowns
Tamannaah Bhatia sure had a lot of fun planning her big Cannes looks and looked resplendent in every one of them. Her first was a vintage vibe-inducing gown in a black and white combination. This bodycon blingy gown came with a white cape, a cinched waistline, and a mermaid silhouette for the bottom cut. Another look was all things glam as she went for a black sequined number with a matching cape again in sheer organza fabric. Ankle strap stilettos and statement diamond rings were the cherries on top elements to round off this gorgeous sight.
She went for a little playful vibe as she made formal wear look fun in a fluorescent green pantsuit with a purple inner. For the formal look she accessorized with statement golden hoops and playful purple eyeshadow to add a fun touch to her makeup. The next was a striped Plisse draped saree from Indian designer Amit Aggarwal which gave off the illusion of being a draped saree but was a gown. The gorgeous saree had hand-embroidered work done on it and featured a plunging neckline.
