OTT content has taken the nation by storm. According to the latest reports, viewers are consuming more such content with each passing day. It has helped content providers make inroads into longer content and has also given viewers a chance to watch content as and when they see fit. To honour the excellence in OTT content, Filmfare recently announced a new awards property called Flyx Filmfare OTT Awards. Recognising the fact that comedy has emerged as a major genre on OTT platforms, we’re introducing Best Comedy Series/Specials, Best Actor, Series (Male/Female): Comedy, Best Supporting Actor Series, (Male/Female): Comedy categories. The aim of this newly created category is to felicitate comic talent. Comedy has certainly grown by leaps and bounds thanks to OTT and we’re sure we’re in for some surprises in these categories.
Another new category we’re introducing is the Best Unscripted (non-fiction) Original (Series/Special). There have always been takers for unscripted content and OTT has kind of given them a niche window towards that.
Apart from these new entities, we’d be honouring excellence in acting in Best Actor, Series (Male/Female): Drama, Best Supporting Actor Series, (Male/Female): Drama and a slew of technical awards comprising the fields of art direction, costume, cinematography, editing, story, best original soundtrack, background music et al in a series.
OTT platforms are also known for their original films as well and hence we’ve included the Best Film (Web Original), Best Actor Male/Female, Web Original Film, and Best Supporting Actor Male/Female, Web Original Film categories as well.
We have a tradition of honouring critically acclaimed performances and continuing that, we’ll have Best Actor, Series (Male/Female), Critics: Comedy, Best Actor, Series (Male/Female), Critics: Drama, and Best Series, Critics and Best director, Critics categories as well. The Best Series and Best director, Series, are going to be the crowning glory of the event.
